Aalto Leaders’ Insight

LOGO DESIGN / MAGAZINE DESIGN / LAYOUT / DATA VISUALISATION

Aalto University Executive Education, that offers professional development services and training for management and leaders, wanted a complete make-over for their magazine. The project was done in collaboration with Räty-Salovaara-Blåfield agency. The feel of the magazine was changed to a more book-like journal, with different narration and sectioning. The magazine has four or five longer stories in the middle section, and they all start with their unique cover page. It’s sort of a small book series inside the magazine, emphasising the book-like experience. The core idea of this content was to present interesting topics, that may or may not connect with the school, and that are actually solid feature articles.

Fortunately I had no obligation to follow the Aalto University’s visual identity. It was obvious that the magazine needed a classic look, to underline the book-like feel, so I based everything on really classic and familiar elements. A classical serif and a sans, balanced paragraphs and a clear, centered design.
I gave the magazine an overall calmness, so that the visuals have a good pedestal. We have been lucky
to work with the top notch photographers and illustrators. It’s also a lot of fun to plan
and design data visualisation and maps, that we want to include in every issue.
